Cape Coast, Ghana – On Aug. 8, 2021, McCrorey shares his story with the world in his new book, Stuck in Africa. In March of 2020, Rashad McCrorey a native New Yorker, took off for a business trip to Ghana, like he had done several times before. However, with a brand new pandemic quickly shutting down life as we knew it, McCrorey made the decision not to return home to New York and instead, self-quarantine in Ghana. A year and a half later, what started out as a temporary fix has turned into the “new normal.”

McCrorey is no stranger to the Motherland. Known in the social media space for helping African Americans reconnect with their African roots, McCrorey has coordinated trips for hundreds of Black Americans to several countries in Africa in order to help them feel closer to their foundation. In October 2016, he started Africa Cross-Culture, a back to Africa travel company organizing trips to Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Uganda.

Although McCrorey has made several trips to Africa, living abroad full-time came with its share of challenges and adjustments. “A year and a half later, I never could have imagined I’d still be living in Ghana,” said McCrorey. “Living here has been an eye-opening experience for me in many ways. I have a story I want to share with the world. Writing Stuck in Africa has given me the perfect platform to let my voice be heard.”

Adjusting to his new life in Ghana, McCrorey is in no rush to return to his former home of Harlem, N.Y. He is a firm believer that all African Americans should travel back home to Africa if even only for a short visit to experience the land and culture for themselves.
